How to Clean Golf Sunglasses Without Scratching the Lenses

Sweat, sunscreen and bunker dust belong on the course, not on your lenses. Here is a simple cleaning routine, plus the everyday habits worth avoiding.

A thumbprint before the first tee. Sunscreen halfway through the round. A bit of bunker dust when you least need it.

The temptation is to wipe your sunglasses on your polo and carry on. But rubbing grit across a lens can leave scratches. A quick rinse and a clean lens cloth are a better starting point.

Start with clean hands and a rinse

Wash any sunscreen or dirt off your hands first. Then rinse the lenses and frame under lukewarm running water to loosen dust before you wipe.

Use gentle pressure and hold the frame securely. You are cleaning the surface, not polishing out a mark.

Lift the smears, rather than spreading them

For everyday lens care, a small drop of mild, pH-neutral liquid soap can help remove oily marks. Gently clean with your fingertips, rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean microfibre lens cloth. Follow any specific care instructions supplied with your glasses.

Do not forget the nose pads and arms. They collect sweat and sunscreen too, even when the lenses look clean.

What should you carry in your golf bag?

Keep a clean microfibre lens cloth in its own pouch, away from loose tees and bunker sand. For cleaning away from a tap, use a lens cleaner confirmed suitable for your lens coatings.

If there is visible grit on the lenses, rinse it away first. A golf towel that has just cleaned your club is not a substitute for a lens cloth.

Skip the quick fixes

  • No shirt sleeves, tissues or paper towels.
  • No household glass cleaners or abrasive polishes.
  • No toothpaste to try to buff out scratches.
  • No extra scrubbing when a mark will not shift.

A stubborn mark may be damage rather than dirt. If you are unsure, ask us before trying a stronger cleaner.

Give them a proper home after the round

Once your sunglasses are clean and dry, put them in a protective case. Avoid leaving them loose beside your keys, resting them lens-down or storing them in a hot car.

Whether you wear the classic DUBL Hyperion or wraparound Helios, the aim is the same: clear lenses ready for the next round, without making cleaning harder than it needs to be.
